OM3 Emotional Balance  - Instructions for use and precautions

> What benefits can you expect from OM3 Emotional Balance?

OM3 Emotional Balance* is used to heighten mood, improve emotional well being and promote mental stability.

* This claim has not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

> Dose

The recommended initial dose of OM3 Emotional Balance is 3 softgels per day, in one or more doses, for a daily intake of 1050 mg (1,05g) of EPA and 150 mg of DHA corresponding to a total of 1,35g omega-3 per day. This corresponds to the quantity of EPA used in the most recent clinical studies.

The ratio of EPA fatty acid (the most important for emotional balance) compared to DHA is often insufficient (1.5/1 in fish meat, and almost always lower than 4/1); it is 7.5:1 in OM3 Emotional Balance.

> Taking the softgels

The recommended daily dosage may be taken all at once or in several smaller doses throughout the day, as best suited for each individual.

> Length of course

Scientific studies on the incorporation of essential fatty acids by cell membranes suggest that it takes about three months to compensate for a deficiency in Omega-3 fatty acids. It is therefore recommended to regularly take OM3 Emotional Balance for three months to assess its effects (to improve this evaluation, it is recommended to complete the questionnaire on emotional wellbeing (link to the emotion test) and to repeat the test after three months). Improvements are often noted during the first weeks of trial.

After a three-month period of use, if you are following a diet rich in Omega-3 fatty acids of marine origin (salmon, tuna, and some shellfish) and low in Omega-6 fatty acids (from vegetable oil) and your emotional balance has been restored, you may reduce the daily dosage to two softgels per day.

Continue taking two softgels per day for another three months and assess your emotional balance:

- If your emotional balance is stable, a dosage regimen of one softgel per day would be sufficient.

- If emotional balance is not stable, return to a dosage regimen of three softgels per day.

Many medical experts in the field of nutrition as well as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and National Institute of Health (NIH) agree the consumption of Omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA is safe and should not exceed 3 grams per day.

Three softgels of OM3 Emotional Balance provides 1.42 grams of Omega-3 fatty acids including EPA and DHA per day.

> Precautions

Certain people may experience a temporary acceleration in intestinal transit. In rare cases, stools are soft or even liquid during the first week of administration. In this case, it is simply necessary to decrease the dose for one or two weeks, and then resume the higher dose again to see whether tolerance improves.

Omega-3 fatty acids may cause a reduction in platelet aggregation. Ask your doctor for advice if you suffer blood coagulation disorders or if you are taking anticoagulant treatment as the effects of the products may be increased. However, studies have not shown an increase in bleeding time with Omega-3 doses of up to 3g per day (equal to 7 softgels of OM3 Emotional Balance).

If you must undergo a surgical operation, tell your doctor that you are taking this dietary supplement.

> When shouldn't you take OM3 Emotional Balance?

OM3 Emotional Balance is not recommended in persons with allergies to fish and shellfish.

Patients with pancreatic disorders (congenital malformations of the pancreas, chronic or acute pancreatitis) should avoid the consumption of fats in general. In these cases, administration of OM3 Emotional Balance like all other food supplements containing essential fatty acids, is not recommended.

Pregnant, nursing or lactating women: consult a doctor prior to use

> Possible interactions

The only possible drug interaction of Omega-3 is with anticoagulants and possibly aspirin as they may theoretically increase the effects of these agents on the fluidity of blood. You should therefore inform your doctor that you intend to take Omega-3 supplements and ask him or her to adjust the anticoagulant treatment where necessary (generally by reducing the dose of the drug, on the basis of the results of tests of clotting or bleeding times which are generally unchanged).

Omega-3 are perfectly compatible with psychiatric drugs such as antidepressants (Prozac, Zoloft, Deroxat, Seropram, etc), lithium, or neuroleptics (Zyprexa, Haldol and others).
